Acupuncture

Traditional acupuncture involves inserting extremely thin stainless steel, disposable needles into specific points on the surface of the skin. This ionic transfer sets in motion an elegant interplay of the body's own energies, restoring balance to the body, mind and spirit.

This age-old system of medicine has stood the test of thousands of years and yet continues to rise above and improve health even in our modern western culture.

This sophisticated yet subtle method of treatment is so effective because of its focus on each individual's particular needs. According to the leading Taoist, Chuang Tse, in the 4th century B.C.,

"Natures differ,
and needs with them,
Hence the wise men of old
Did not lay down
One measure for all."

Your treatment will be tailored to address your specific imbalances, and will revitalize you in a relaxed atmosphere.

Herbal Remedies

There are thousands of herbs in the Chinese pharmacopoeia. Of these, about 300 are considered essential to enable treatment of most health problems. Each herb has clearly defined effects that specify its use for particular symptoms.  In traditional clinical use, Chinese herbs are seldom prescribed individually. They are usually combined into formulas of 3-15 herbs. Combining the herbs allows the herbalist to balance the formula to treat the complete symptom pattern and constitution of the patient while minimizing the possibility of side-effects occurring.

Chinese herbs are traditionally given in the raw, dried form. Some of these have been specially prepared or treated before drying. They are simmered in water to make a tea every 1-2 days by the patient. The tea is then consumed or applied topically twice per day.  Another common form of Chinese herbs is concentrated granulated extracts. These are mixed with water or juice by the patient or placed directly on the tongue and washed down with water. They can also be put into capsules.  There are now many Chinese herb combinations available in tablet and extract form as well. While these formulas are not customized for each individual's unique symptom pattern, they can often be effective for a majority of people.

Therapeutic Massage

A well-trained massage practitioner employs his hands as finely tuned yet powerful tools to promote wellness. As awareness grows and misconceptions fade regarding the value of massage therapy, more and more people are discovering the profound benefits available to them through regular body work. The origins of therapeutic massage are rooted in the common instinctual response to hold and rub a hurt or pain. It is found in all cultures as an integral part of health care and maintenance. Hippocrates, the father of western medicine, considered massage of prime importance in any health regime. Galen and the Romans also greatly prized the healing benefits of massage. With the re-emergence of holistic health theories and therapies, therapeutic massage is experiencing a renaissance and is regaining its rightful place among health care practitioners.
